Computers store information as patterns of ones and zeros. Tiny transistors are either "on" (storing a value of 1) or "off" (storing a value of 0). The digits 1 and 0 are "bits" — the smallest pieces of information that a computer can handle.

• Bit: Abbreviation for (BI) binary (D) digit.
• Byte: A sequence of eight adjacent binary digits (bits) and is usually sufficient to store one character of information.
• Kilobyte (Kb): 1,024 bytes (Kilo = one thousand)
• Megabyte (Mb): 1,024 kilobytes (Mega = one million)
• Gigabyte (Gb): 1,024 megabytes (Giga = one billion)
• Terabyte (Tb): 1,024 gigabytes (Tera = one trillion)
